Most of you will know my obsession with skincare. I literally have cupboards and cupboards full to the brim with lotions and potions. When I became pregnant, my first trimester skincare totally turned everything 180 degrees. It almost settled mid way, and then it all changed all over again (I tell you, pregnancy does strange things). More on my first trimester skincare here and more on my most recent third trimester essentials here.
Around 5 months ago I went back to incorporating Dermalogica in to my skincare routine. A brand I fell in love with a few years back when studying skincare and facials and in the days when pre-cleanse, daily exfoliant and the WHOLE ultra-calming range was basically my whole go to day and night routine. Fast forward a few years and I’m almost full circle. The 2 favourite products I’ve been using every single day recently during my last few months of pregnancy are Dermalogica’s Special Cleansing Gel, and Dermalogica’s Skin Smoothing Cream.
The Special Cleansing Gel took me by surprise initially. I was recommended this product although admittedly was a little hesitant given that I’m so in to oil, balm and cream based cleansers. Not one to miss out on a good thing, I thought I’d give this a go anyway and I’m so glad I did. I use this morning and night and keep one by my sink and one in the shower. The Special Cleansing Gel is a really light, foaming cleanser that activates to cleanse and remove impurities once activated with water (hence why I keep it by my sink & use in the shower). It has calming ingredients that leaves your skin feeling clean but not stripped, that was my major concern moving from oils and balms to a gel, the fact that it may be too drying, but absolutely not, this leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean. It contains mint and lavender extracts, although these can’t be smelt, there are no artificial fragrances or colours, it’s a transparent medium consistency gel formula with a mild but gentle natural scent. The packaging is clean and hygienic, no oils leaking and no sticking your fingers in a tub, hoorah!
I follow up once my skin is prepped with Dermalogica’s Skin Smoothing Cream. This is a medium weight cream which has a consistency between a thin lotion and a super thick cream. It’s aimed at those with normal/combination or slightly dry skin but Dermalogica also have intense and super rich moisturisers for those with drier skins which may be more suitable. For me the Skin Smoothing Cream works perfectly. I literally take a pea size amount, dot it over my face and massage in. The cream has a really subtle scent and is absorbed within a minute. It leaves my skin feeling soft and comfortable. It also works well at priming and smoothing the cream as a base if you’re going to follow up with make up.
These two have been a winner for me, taking it back to simple skincare that works, I’m so glad I’ve found this during pregnancy a time where comfort and products that really work are so important, I love these and would highly recommend both products!
What are your favourite Dermalogica skincare products?
